Questions : How many controllers can be connected to a converter, or Is necessary to use one converter for each controller?
Problem Solving :
It is not necessary to use one converter to one controller. Each converter can be connected for many controllers.
Theoretically, the maximum number of controllers for one converter is 254. However, for actual installation and also from our experiences, the reasonable maximum number of controllers is up to 32 units.
Moreover, considering the communication interface RS845, installation distances are less than 300 meters.
As the figure1 below, it is the diagram of converter and controller.
SOYAL provides three types of Controller:
RS485 to TCP/IP Converter: AR-727CM
RS485 to RS232 Converter: AR-701CM
RS485 to USB Converter: AR-321CM
Each converter is connected up to 32 units of controllers.
For TCP/IP Converter 727CM (figure2), the maximum 32 units of controllers can share the same IP address (192.168.1.127) from the same converter. Each converter 727CM has two channels and we advise to separately connect 32 units to two channels for stable communication.
For USB Converter 321CM or RS232 Converter 701CM (figure3), the maximum 32 units of controllers can share same COM Port Number from the same converter.
