1. Duplicate Controller Station Number or Mismatch Between Controller Station Number and Selected Station Number in 701ServerSQL

In the past, when all readers communicated via RS485, installers were aware that setting the reader's station number was necessary for the software to differentiate readers on the RS485 loop. Since SOYAL's E-series readers come with built-in RS-485 communication, the station number remains a required parameter.

However, many TCP/IP devices only require IP, Port, and Gateway settings, without the concept of a station number. As a result, users who purchase TCP/IP devices directly for a new SOYAL system may forget to configure the station number.

For new users, it is recommended to follow the connection structure of their devices and refer to Section 7.4 of the 701ServerSQL manual for step-by-step guidance based on the categorized connection setups.

STEP 1. The Node ID in the image below represents the reader's station number. Modify it directly and click Update. The station number will be updated after the reader restarts. Each reader must have a unique station number; duplication is not allowed.

STEP 2. The station number set on the WEB page must be selected in the LAN settings, and the corresponding IP & Port must match the reader assigned to that station number.

2. Controller is Set to IP Mode and IP Option is Selected, but IP Address or Port is Not Configured or Configured Incorrectly

This section should be divided into two parts based on how the reader is connected: either through a built-in network card or via AR-727-CM (RS485 to TCP), to explain common errors.

2-1 Reader Configured via Built-in Network Module

The two most common mistakes in this part are: not selecting the IP option and entering the wrong Port number.

If the IP option is not selected, it means that 701ServerSQL will attempt to connect to the reader at station number 1 via RS485, which is incorrect.

The Port field should be filled with the TCP Listen Port value from the reader’s WEB page settings. A common mistake is entering Port 1631 from the 701Server COM settings, which is incorrect.

2-2  Reader Configured via AR-727-CM Converter

This setup is more complex. For first-time configuration, please refer to Section 7.4.2 of the 701ServerSQL manual and follow the steps exactly. This section only highlights common mistakes.

Common Mistake 1:

When connecting the reader via AR-727-CM, the red box settings should be configured based on the reader’s station number and model—it is completely unrelated to AR-727-CM.

  • If your reader is AR-721-H with station number 1, select 001 and choose the model 101H/323D/....

  • If your reader is AR-837-E with station number 2, select 002 and choose the model 327E/3xxE/....

The IP & Port settings in the blue box correspond to AR-727-CM's parameters. Therefore, if both readers are connected to the same AR-727-CM, they should use the same IP & Port settings.

Common Mistake 2:

1.Building on the concept from the first common mistake, the second common mistake is overlooking the CH1/CH2 IP settings and mode configuration of the AR-727-CM.

2. The AR-727-CM provides two RS485 channels (CH1 and CH2), supporting two independent communication conversion interfaces, meaning that the Port settings for CH1 and CH2 are separate.

3. By default, the AR-727-CM is configured as follows:

  • CH1 is set to TCP/Server Mode with Port 1621, functioning as a converter.
  • CH2 is set to UDP/Client Mode with Port 1623, functioning as a UDP broadcast interface.

4. If CH2 is not changed to TCP/Server Mode, or if a reader is connected to CH2 but its Port is incorrectly set to CH1’s Port 1621, the reader will fail to connect properly.

Common Mistake 3:

Some AR-727-CM units used on-site are earlier versions. If connecting to a new reader, the firmware must be updated to version 5.03 or later. As of February 2025, the latest version is 5.05, which can be downloaded from the official website.

For update instructions, please refer to Section 3-3 of the UDP UPDATER manual ➤ UDP UPDATER Manual

※ Note: When selecting the model, be sure to choose 727iV3 to ensure compatibility with the AR-727-CM firmware update.

3. Ensure Firewall Allows 701ServerSQL and 701ClientSQL

When the reader is operating normally, it continuously sends packets to 701ServerSQL. However, antivirus software or Windows Firewall may mistakenly detect these repeated packets as a virus. In reality, simply allowing exceptions for 701ServerSQL and 701ClientSQL in the firewall will resolve this issue.

4. Confirm Available Communication IP & Port with On-Site Network Administrator

If issues persist after following steps 1 to 3, it's possible that network restrictions have been applied by the IT administrator. They should verify that the correct ports used by SOYAL hardware and software are open. If there's no IT admin on-site, try changing the current port to 6621/6631—using a higher port number sometimes helps resolve connection issues.

The recommended ports that IT personnel should preconfigure are:

  • 701ServerSQL & 701ClientSQL: 1631
  • Reader/Converter: 1621 / 1623 / 1601
